The All India War Memorial, popularly known as the India Gate, is located along the Kartavye Path in New Delhi. The grand structure of the India Gate is an awe-inspiring sight and is often compared to the Arc de Trompe in France, the Gateway of India in Mumbai and the Arch of Constantine in Rome. The 42-metre tall historical structure was designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens and is one of the largest war memorials in the country. India Gate is also famous for hosting the Republic Day Parade every year.

Dedicated to the 82,000 Indian and British soldiers who died during the First World War and the Third Anglo-Afghan War, the surface of the memorial bears the names of 13,300 soldiers. Just below the arch in the India Gate complex is the Amar Jawan Jyoti, a lit structure. History of India Gate
Construction of the India Gate began in 1921, and was part of the British initiative to build tombs and memorials for all Indian and British soldiers who represented the British Empire in World War I. The Duke of Connaught laid the foundation stone of the War Memorial on 10 February 1921 and finally on 12 February 1931 the monument was inaugurated by the Viceroy of India, Lord Irwin.
